From Lake Camp to Beach Home

Our living and dining areas have been a construction zone for seven weeks. SEVEN. It’s safe to say I especially was getting a little antsy for the other half of my home to be in working order. Now I can’t say the space is complete, because really, it isn’t even close. We still have painting to finish, electrical work to do, floors to clean, and then maybe we can move our furniture back where it started. However, it’s a relief to say that we have those things to finish, rather than we have a whole room still to start!

We absolutely love the way this space turned out. There was a lot of wood to paint, more so than any other room. We had a few different ideas for how we wanted to treat the wood, but ultimately decided to paint it Antique White like the rest of our home. Justin pointed out this morning that before, our home looked similar to that of an old camp at the lake. Now don’t get us wrong, we both grew up going to lakes with our families and absolutely loved it! However, the dark oak wood of a camp wasn’t exactly what we had in mind for our home by the sea. That being said, brightening up the wood gave the space an entirely different feel!

Incase you forgot what this space looked like before…

It was dark, had three layers of wallpaper and was really just not our style. Since then we have stripped the three layers of wallpaper, painted the walls, sanded down the wood, and primed and painted two coats of finish paint. Phew! It was a ton of work!

I was extremely fortunate to have my April vacation time to do the majority of the work. That being said, I can’t say it was much of a vacation, but it was definitely worth it! Even with all that time, being one person, it was nearly impossible to finish. I was feeling discouraged and a little overwhelmed with the idea that this was going to be how I spent ALL of my vacation time. So instead, I took some time to clean and organize the rest of our home, which resulted in a trip to the dump, mostly consisting of the previous owners belongings that were left in our basement! Oh yeah, I also went to a Red Sox game with my dad and had lunch with my mom and aunt. 🙂

This weekend I called in the Big Guns to help me finish, and we managed to make a ton of progress!

Aside from those few finishing touches, our space is complete! We plan to move our couches back into this room, which will leave a very empty office. To solve that, we managed to squeeze in a little shopping this weekend too!

And last but not least, you should know that while I spent the majority of the week painting, cleaning and organizing, our adorable pup did what she does best…
